With the addition of EEG-based sleep staging and a 3D body position sensor, the AHI is calculated based on sleep time, and sleep position (not simply recording time). This results in accurate and informative AHI values, especially for those patients with lower severity, difficulty sleeping, and those with position-dependent symptoms. The addition of EEG also enables the reporting of RERAS (i.e. non-desaturating hypopneas terminating with EEG arousals) for improved event reporting.
